Course Navigation Helper

Calwest University follows USA Education terminology as follows:

  • Program: means the degree program you are enrolled in such as MBA or DBA.
  • Course: means a subject area within the Program. There are many courses that comprise a program.
  • Topic: means a section within a course. There are between 10–20 topics in a course and usually follow a related chapter in the text book assigned for the course.

First: Enroll in a Program

Make sure you have provided all evidence of meeting the admission requirements for your degree program. When you wish to return to your program and courses, go to the Student Portal.

Next: Go to Student Portal (My Portal)

Once you have registered and enrolled in a degree program, use your ID Number (your email) and Password (provided via email) to access your personal student portal using the 'My Portal' Login button. You will see your Profile, the Program you are enrolled in, the required Courses that you have to complete, and your Progress. The portal also provides information about additional Services offered by the university and your Payment history.

Next: Complete Admission Requirements (if any)

If you have to complete any Admission Requirements, such as uploading scanned copies of your Degree Certificates and Resume (C.V.), please do so first. This is your first “assignment”. All DBA students must submit an essay of 3–4 pages titled “My objectives in undertaking Doctoral Research” as part of the application package.

ICMA members do not need to upload their CMA membership certificates, Degree Certificates, or Resume (C.V.), as ICMA has already vetted these documents.

Next: Follow the Topics in a Course and Undertake Assessments

Once enrolled in a course, use the 'Learn' button on top of your Student Portal to access the course syllabus, topics, power-point presentations, MCQ quizzes and final assessments.

On clicking a particular course you are enrolled in, you will see the course syllabus and individual topics that will be based on the recommended text book.

Each chapter in a course has a Topic Quiz that must be passed before proceeding to the next chapter. You are allowed 3 attempts per Topic Quiz, with the highest score kept. Questions and answer options are randomized on each attempt. If you exhaust all 3 attempts, you can review the chapter slides again to unlock 3 more attempts. Calwest tracks all student activity including time spent on course material and quiz attempts.

Next: Finish Course — Undertake the Final Exam

For Online Courses

After completing all chapters and their Topic Quizzes, your Final Exam will be available to undertake online at a time of your convenience. There is a time limit of 90 minutes in which you will need to answer multiple-choice questions that are randomly drawn from the course question pool.

Please ensure that you have an undisturbed 90-minute time frame to undertake your Final Exam, as after 90 minutes your work will be automatically submitted and graded.

There is only one attempt provided for the Final Exam. A passing score of 50% is required.

  • A student can repeat a Final Exam, in case they did not pass, by paying an additional assessment fee of US$275.00 per course.

As only one attempt is given, make sure you have a quiet place and a good internet connection before you attempt the Final Exam. A passing score of at least 50% is required. If you do not pass the final exam, a resit is available for a fee of US$275.

For Research Courses

The requirements for these are different to the online courses and the details are provided in the Course Syllabus. These are:

  • Research Methods: Self-Assessment that you have completed all readings and videos
  • Research Proposal: The submission of the Research Proposal to your supervisor, and grading by supervisor
  • Research Thesis: The submission of the Research Thesis to your supervisor, for submission to two examiners for grading.
